The Challenge
When the client reached out for Amazon KDP book formatting services, they needed both a print and eBook version of Voices of the 21st Century: Wise Women Bringing Light to the World. This book is part of an ongoing series featuring personal stories from inspiring women. The challenge? The client didn’t have the original InDesign file—just a PDF. Every layout element had to be rebuilt from scratch to match the previous volumes.
They initially considered a fresh design but ultimately decided to keep the original style. This meant I had to recreate everything—fonts, margins, headers, and styling—exactly as it appeared in past editions while ensuring it was optimized for both print and eBook design for Amazon Kindle.
The Process
Accuracy was everything. Each story needed to fit within three pages, followed by an author bio and a photo. Many images were low resolution, requiring extra work to enhance them for print quality. I set up the InDesign file to allow seamless exports—one click for a print-ready PDF and another for ePub, eliminating unnecessary reformatting. This approach saved time and ensured perfect compatibility with the Amazon KDP platform.
One of the biggest challenges was the number of revisions. After completing the first draft, the client sent multiple rounds of corrections. I had to stay laser-focused to ensure every change was applied correctly without introducing errors.
The Result
All files were approved by Amazon KDP on the first submission, a testament to the precision and technical accuracy of the formatting. The print version and Kindle eBook design maintained a polished, professional look while staying true to the book series’ established style.
